MEP Champions

The WEP is supported by Members of the European Parliament who are committed to the issue of women’s entrepreneurship. Called 'champions', they support the national organisations of women entrepreneurs and support the activities of the WEP by taking part in its bi-annual events and promoting its actions. They also contribute with articles issued in the monthly newsletter of the Platform, 'Five Pillars News'.

    Born on the 10th of March 1963 in Rome, Anna Maria Corazza- Bildt is a member of the EPP group of the European Parliament and of the Moderate Party in Sweden. She is Vice - Chair of the IMCO committee, member of FEMM, DEPA and D-UA Committees.  She is a substitute for the LIBE and D-TR committees. Anna Maria Corazza Bildt strongly supports female entrepreneurship as she is an entrepreneur herself, and is engaged in numerous fields, such as the improvement of the internal market, youth employment, as well as violence against women.

Ms Gabriel is very involved in the issues linked with women’s rights, gender equality, democracy and conflicts in Africa. She was rapporteur of the ‘Report on Equality between Women and Men in the European Union – 2010′ of the FEMM committee.

    Born on 26th November 1953 in Ballintogher, County Sligo, Marian Harkin is member of the ALDE group and of the European Democratic Party. She is a member of the EMPL and D-US committees and substitute for the committees ECON, PETI, TAXE and DANZ. Before being an MEP, Ms Harkin was a maths teacher. She is involved in the European Year 2014 on Reconciling Work and Family Life, supports the European Mobility Card. She is also a member of the European Women’s Lobby Political Mentoring Network.

    Born on 12th November 1952 in Weymouth, Dorset, MEP Honeyball is member of the S&D and the Labour party representing London. She is a member of the committees FEMM, JURI, D-ZA and DMED and is a substitute for the CULT and DPLC committees. She is very much involved in the issue of gender equality and women’s rights and defines herself as a ‘pro-European feminist of a pacifist disposition’ on her blog.

  • Teresa Jiménez-Becerril Barrio

    Born on 24th July 1961 in Sevilla, Teresa Jimenez is a member of the EPP and of the Spanish party ‘Popular Party’. She is a member of the committees FEMM, DEVE, FEMM, DROIT, DLAT, CPDE and President of D-MX. She is a substitute for the LIBE and DACP Committee. After the death of her brother, Alberto Jiménez-Becerril Barrio, killed in 1998 by ETA, Ms Jimenez became a great fighter against terrorism, getting involved in the activities of civil society organisations who work in the defence of human freedom and the rights of victims of terrorism. She is also dedicated to the issue of women’s entrepreneurship and gender equality.

    Born on the 26th of April 1952 in Killarney, Sean Kelly is a member of the EPP group of the European Parliament and of the Fine Gael Party in Ireland. He is a member of the committees ITRE and D-IR and a substitute for the INTA and DASE Commitees. Sean Kelly is involved in topics such as education, (he was shadow rapporteur of the report on tackling early school leaving), sustainable growth and development, innovation, as well as competitiveness in SMEs. He is strongly involved in the promotion of female entrepreneurship. Sean Kelly has been elected MEP of the Year for Research & Innovation in 2012.

    Born on 9th December 1981 in Foggia, Barbara Matera is a member of the EPP group and of the Italian party ‘Il Popolo della Libertà’. She was rapporteur of the report on single mothers and she is rapporteur of the report on External factors that represent hurdles to European female entrepreneurship.
